Hi,
Has anyone ever opened a bank account with any bank using a credit card statement? I see a few banks accept this as I am finding it hard to get ID for my wife as she has never had a bank account and we live with parents with no utility bills on her name.
Thx.

I would say this is practically impossible now due anti-money laundering regulations.
Is she on the electoral roll at your current address? If not, banks tend to start asking for certified copies of your driver's license, passport etc. before they'll contemplate so much as an internet savings account.
Also, the credit reference agencies are likely to tell you they can't find her on their database, even when you've lived at the same address for years. We live with parents with no utility bills in her namePeople who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
First of all, if she is on the electoral roll, most banks will open an account online without ever requesting any further documents from her.
In case she isn't, banks take a number of documents as proof of identity and address.
In my recent experience with Natwest they will take a credit card statement in her name as proof of address, just as they would take any utility bill.
Now, she needs proof of identity. For that purpose she can use a recent payslip, tax notification or national insurance statement among others.
These documents are often requested if she applies online. In case she wants to pop into a branch a passport and/or driving licence will do.0 -

This is easily rectified. She contributes to the utility bills, presumably. Simply transfer a phone bill or similar to her name.
We opened a Bank of Scotland account with only a passport and non benefit job centre plus letter for my wife. An easycash account. We closed this due to such bad customer service.
Tried with the phone bill cannot be done unless you cancel and reapply then a new 12 month contract and you lose your discounts.First of all, if she is on the electoral roll, most banks will open an account online without ever requesting any further documents from her.

Would Natwest take credit card statements in joint names?0 -
Would Natwest take credit card statements in joint names?
Not sure about that. Is her name on the statement? If it is, I believe it will be fine.
Since you had an easycash account, do you keep any statements from that account? An easycash statement is what I used as proof of address for the Natwest Step account.
Here is a list of acceptable documents: http://www.natwest.com/personal/current-accounts/g2/id-required.ashx0
