  • Yep - i shall second this! Went to local ASDA last week for 3 things. Double cream. Cornflakes. Lemonade (not diet as the man of the house won't drink it lol!)

They didn't have any of the three items....HOW pants is that?!!!!

Pull ya socks up ASDA - no point making stuff cheap if you're gonna run out of it then not restock shelves....cos then you are losing money....geddit???

Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?

As I've spent my life working full-time and popping into supermarkets on the way home well after 6-7pm, I've spent my life being annoyed at many empty shelves. Especially bread.
  • It is very annoying and supermarkets are the masters of spin
  • Yeah part of me gets really peeved off when I go into an ASDA even about 4pm and find they have no Pineapples or Melons left. I love Melon!!

Oh, and the other stuff I buy. You'd think they'd get enough stock to do them the day, especially at a 24 hour shop.
  • Morrisons are just as bad went there yesterday and a couple of offers were sold out
  • To be honest I think all the supermarkets are as bad when it comes to keeping their shelves stocked up - be it a special offer or not!

  • Having worked as a retail manager the simple fact as to why the shelves are empty later on is down to staffing. There is simply no-one to refill the shelves as most of the resources are used to get a good night fill ready for the morning. I always saw this as short sighted and got frustrated having been a day manager!

The largest Tescos near me (Surrey Quays) is always empty of fruit and veg. I used to think it was the evening I shopped (tuesday) but I have since visited on other days, all fruit (apples especially) are either sold out or bruised like mad! It wouldn't matter but they make up near enough an entire side of an aisle- and we're talking "superstore" sized aisles here!

Have complained to customer service who say "ah, thats because we are getting in a delivery" (every single night??) and me asking at 6pm: what time is the delivery? answer: "11pm."
  • It so annoying I find Tesco's the worse offender but I often find best offers have gone when I go at night around 8ish

Probably about right, I worked for Tesco and it was deliveries every night, even 2 or 3. With fresh food if its not on the shelf it is unlikely to be out the back. With general grocery it will more than likely be out the back!

All stores are measured on the 'availability' which is taken from the 'dot com' shopping done in the mornings for internet shoppers hence the emphasis on a good fill for mornings. The target availability used to be 97% for the week. Any lower and the management is made to feel uncomfortable!
