    Yes its true that the interest is tax free, in the sense that it doesn't contribute towards taxable income (like an ISA) but I would be very surprised if the capital value of the certificates was excluded from any means-tested benefits that have a savings threshold (e.g. housing benefit).
  • Does anyone think it would be worth converting a Halifax guaranteed saver, fixed at 5%, into ILSC now or should I just wait for the fixed rate to expire in November. When does the VAT rise kick in?
