is there a wireless doorbell that works though upvc

Does anyone have a wireless doorbell attached to their upvc doorframe, that works?

Ours doesn't and it cost £40, need to replace it but really don't want to be wasting time or money - please help!

  • I got a door bell like the one you are after from home bargains - cost me about £3 and works fine although dont knnow if they have any more in. I think homebase sell a similar type but it is more expensive - around £20 I think.

I dont think its the fact that its upvc I think its more that its faulty or that the bell and button are on differant frequencys usual problem.take the battery covers of both and you should see some jumper switches they should both match.

We bought one from Lidl (or it might have been Aldi) and it worked in the socket just behind the door but would not work in a socket further away. Also under the soft rubber bell push was a plastic "pip" which broke. Got a refund then went and bought one from the little local electrical shop. Cost about £12 and works fine, we have a porch with UPVC door then a UPVC front door.

Yes my cheapo bell at Wilkinsons does it has to go through a front porch teh signal to the old original front door which has the bell on door frame, also work at back of house. I do get odd time when a tune which isn't even on the bell and know one at the door the bell then plays but generally that only happens a couple of times a year
  • Same here – ours not only works through two front doors (one uPVC) but, till we worked what was going on and changed the frequency, was set off by a neighbour's across the road and about five doors up.

upvc should be no problem at all to a wireless set up
mind you I have given up on mine as it remains live all the time so the battery lasts about 1 month and its getting expensive having to replace it all the time, I would fit a mains powered one next time
