A quick question about excel

Ive just spent the last half an hour inputting a load of figures into excel and ive just noticed that the number 0's arent inputting at the beginning of the table, just the numbers following them. How can i put this right as the table is no use without them.

Instead of getting 0003286870 i am getting 3286870. :mad:

Also, how can i print off the sheet leaving the grid lines as i tried to print it off and all i got were the figures and no guiding lines.

Thanks for any help :-)

    or if you don't want to do calculations on the numbers;

    Higlight the cells, format and change the number to a text value (you might need to add the 00's again)

    for the grid lines...
    highlight the cells, format and click on borders, you can then add the gridlines around whatever cells you like.

    For the first one, highlight the cells you are using and change the format to 'text' (the quick way is to highlight the cells and then right-click).

    For the second, go to page layout and on the 'sheet' tab, click on 'gridlines'.

    Hope this is OK - if not, say what version you are using (probably 2003 or 2007) and I can be more specific

    Crikey - you guys must type faster than me!

  • You can also prefix any thing you enter into Excel with an apostrophe and it will leave it exactly as entered, you dont then need to mess around with cell formatting.

  • Change the cell format to 0000000000 or however many 0's you want.
