If a person no longer lives at an address you either forward to their new address or return the letter to the sender... simply write 'No longer at this address' or return the letter to your postman.
Waste of time, the energy company i work for dont do anything with returned mail.0 -
I think contacting the companies to tell them that you are the new owner is fine, but I wouldn't give them his ex-wife's address.
She told you she didn't want anything to do with him, and who knows the reason. She may not know where he is or may be hiding from him if he was abusive or something. He's no more her responsibility than he is yours, so I'd just show them the proof that you are not him and then leave it at that.
Just my thoughts on that particular suggestion is all.Hoping to create a beautiful life for DS and I.

Thanks to everyone for your advise. I called the 3 companies yesterday afternoon and they were all actually really helpful. I had to send a copy of my council tax bill to them as proof that we were the new owners.
I was told by one company to keep the council tax bill and photo ID handy if anyone came to my door. None of them said anything about the fact that I had opened his mail.
I love your idea welshwoofs, I did ask for id but he said he didnt need to show it as i was lying about who I was!DFW NERD NO.656 DEBT FREE 24TH NOVEMBER 2010 TOTAL DEBT AUGUST 2007 £39000MFiT T2 NO.56 WE OWN [STRIKE]25%[/STRIKE] 31.5% OF OUR HOUSE SO FAR!0 -

When we had baliffs appear seeking the previous owner, after buying our house, they were all polite and courteous. I just showed them an electric bill in my name and they noted it and left.
There is a shared info service called GAIN (gone away information network) once one company notes on it that someone has moved on, other companies should access the info and amend their own records. Individuals can't access the info, so you have to wait for it to happen.
We had baliffs for the previous owner and customers of his previous business. The business went bankrupt a month after he moved out and some of these customers had paid money and not received goods.
Coincidentally the previous owners name was the numberplate of my car in reverse (eg KIM for MIK) and one customer wouldn't accept that that wasn't his car. She threatened to sit in front of the car until she was reimbursed.:rolleyes:I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
