Aaargh need to RANT!!

Sorry, I'm a lurker so I know nobody knows me but I'm so upset and frustrated that I've got to write it down somewhere!

I found a part time job to apply to which would have helped towards paying the cards off, did my CV (been a SAHM) so that took quite a while. Sent it off by email and had a mail back saying they don't accept CVs only their application form. Downloaded the 'form' - badly formatted Word doc) from their website was Read only so saved over it using my name and spent literally hours filling out my experience, skills etc (haven't done this in a quite a long time). Went to send it and the doc is nowhere to be found on my system. Spoke to DH who is an IT tech and he told me where to search and as it's not there it's probably gone :mad::mad::mad: I can't do it all over again...why does life have to be so crap??

  • Have a hug :grouphug: OK, sit down, have a cup of tea/ coffee/ Horlicks and a few deep breaths. Then have another search on the computer.

When does the application need to be in for? Can DH have a look for the doc maybe using some sort of retrieval software (dunno if that's the right word)?

Annoying as it is.. yes you can do it again, if it really is lost then at least you have already answered the questions so it will be easier second time round. Don't give in! x

  • You didn't enf up saving it in the temporary download folder did you by any chance? you know when you click to download things it saves them in a temporary folder thing before you then rename it and save it to your documents or wherever.
Have you tried doing a search for it - have you got a search thingy in your start menu? as long as you can remember what you called it.

Have you clicked Start/Recent Documents if you are using XP I think Vista has the same.

If you lend someone £20 and never see that person again.
It was probably worth it.
  • thanks for your replies...i have just made some tea and stuffed some white chocolate in my face! Unfortunately it's not in the temp file, DH tolld me how to search right through the computer for any word file and it's not there. He says he has a disc that might help but didn't sound too hopeful. Closing date is tomorrow. I know I could do it again but the form was so difficult to work with in the first place and I had spent so long on it I just don't know if I can face it - I will decide later when my head is a bit clearer. Doesn't help I've been up half the night with 2 sick kids, one of whom should have had his first day at school today!
    Thanks again for listening x

Yes, that's how I normally go in to my recent stuff but it's nowhere to be found! As I said to my husband I can't understand how something tangible I had been working on and saving as I went along could just disappear but he said it's pretty common
  • If you open Word and click on file - sometimes you have the option of opening recently opened documents. This is different to what SteveR suggests as it is within Word...

Also, search computer for files with .tmp extensions - this is a longshot.

Lastly, if you have to do it again - it will take a fraction of the time as you know what you weant to write - and in fact it probably comes out better the 2nd time round.

Good luck with the application and I hope you are successful in getting an interview (and then the job :-))

  • Thanks, just tried both of those...and nothing. I know I should do it again and I'm sure you are right that it won't take so long - hopefully I can get back in the right frame of mind tomorrow morning. I know a dedicated DFW would!
  • Maybe stupid question - but you have looked in your reccyle bin right?

  • Go for it - think how good it would feel to get that job and get more paid off those cards. (and if you get it maybe you can design them a decent application form! ;) )
