Hi I recieved this e-mail today (have just deleted the tax number):
Taxpayer ID: ******************US
Tax Type: INCOME TAX
Issue: Unreported/Underreported Income (Fraud Application)
Please review your tax statement on Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website (click on the link below):
review tax statement for taxpayer id:
Internal Revenue Service
From: "Internal Revenue Service" <no-reply@irs.gov> - Notice of Underreported Income
I'm sure this is scam but it has shaken me up non-the-less. I can't open link as I am at work but I think I'll just delete it anyway. I searched 'IRS' and it seems to be an American company. Does anyone know anymore about it? Has anyone had a similar e-mail?
I know I have nothing hidden and surely it would be the inland revenue that would contact me by letter if they had any concerns right?
Thanks,
Annie

Yes: IRS is the American version of what we used to call the Inland Revenue (now part of HMRC). So: unless you have a US income, or share an email address with a US (non) taxpayer, that email has to be a scam.0

Well known scam reported on HMRC website for quite some time now.0

Thank you. I had made that assumption but your confirmation is reassuring.
