medion ppc 100 gps - advice needed

I used my medion ppc100 for the first time today, I tested it on the run to pick my oh from work . The route the satnav picked is a lot longer than my usual route. I went the way i normally go hoping the satnav would change routes.To my suprise it kept on telling me to u turn to get back on the selected route even when i was just yards away from the destination. i have never used a satnav before so do not know if this is normal.

As i got it for some travelling i am doing next weekend and do not want to end up going round in circles, should i change the satnav programme completley, i have seen tomtom on ebay for about £70 is there a cheaper place to get this? is it worth getting?

Or should i update to a newer version, not sure how i would go about this. I have navigator 4.4. I want to keep this unit rather than get a stand alone sat nav as i find the pc useful
