Egg / is there anybody there?

I was going to open an account with Egg today but I've had second thoughts.
I wanted to ask them a couple of questions but after 10min getting past the automated robot I was then on hold for 15min and finally gave up and tried again later to the same effect.
If this is how they treat potential customers what do they treat the others like.
Is my experience a one off?

Its the same with most banks.....
What questions did you have? They most probably have answers on their website.0 -
The main question was, I did have an account a a couple of years ago and I have read somewhere that if you try to open another account It stops you because its already got you on its database and you have to do it over the phone and I was ring to see if this was the case. And also to check that I was entitled to the bonus rate being an old customer.
Thanks0 -
I've got loads of accounts with them, all opened online.
The T&Cs say one account per special offer (e.g. the 3.25% thing at the moment).
It said this for the 6.3% offer they had last year - I opened several and they have all honoured the 6.3% rate.0 -
Yes, you can have several accounts with them, although for my own clarity I've always closed old accounts when opening a new one. The only limitation is you can't transfer money directly from an old account to their new 3.25% one (you can of course get round this by transferring via an external account). Be careful not to invest more than £50k in total if you have several accounts though...0

If you are talking about the 3.25% including bonus account. Then yes you will get the bonus. The only condition is that it needs to be new money to egg ie come from an external source not transferred internally.
As for having to apply by telephone if you were a customer previously why not try and apply online and see what happens if it fails then call.
I do remember reading somewhere that even if you close your accounts with egg your online access remains so perhaps try to log in if you still remember your details and then apply.0 -

It was probably here (ed- especially post #12). I think that it was probably an unfortunate individual case rather than a policy.
Why don't just just apply anyway? You don't have to fund it on opening, so there is nothing to lose.

I had the same experience and have given up. Even after phoning them to clarify the situation I got asked to send in ID (despite being assured that this would not happen). I closed accounts with them in the past because of poor service and inconvenience, and am not going to deal with them again for the sake of slightly higher rates than competitors.0

My friend found their CS terrible.
I told her to make a complaint. She could not be bothered with all the hassle and found a better account elsewhere.
I am trying to work out who has got egg on their face0 -
I have tried to log-in to my closed Egg account and was able to do so. Once logged in it says one closed account.
So would I be able to open the new account using my old detail?0 -

You most probably could. It appears they do an instant check and if everything is ok they open your account immediately. If it's not just give up as their CS is terrible!0
