Breasley Flexcell Mattress

We bought a Breasley Flexcell mattress a the begining of July, it cost nearly £500 but because my husband is having back surgery we wanted something which would be good for his back as well as comfortable and this claimed to tick all the boxes. It is the worst mattress we have ever slept on or should that be NOT slept on! It is memory foam and gets so hot it is unbearable. My huband gets pins and needles and I am taking pain killers because my hip is so sore. Neither the retailer or Breasley themselves are interested, they just say no one else has complained. If this matttress has a 100% track record why haven't they got the confidence in their product to offer some kind of returns policy? Any suggestions?
Many thanks

If they don't have a returns policy then presumably that was clear before you bought the item? The difficulty with mattresses is that one size cannot fit all, as it were. I don't know the solution, other than to pay more and get one from a company that has a no-quibble returns policy.
If the mattress is not faulty and the company does not want to accept a return then I don't know what you can do about it. No law appears to have been broken. The only thing I can glean from your post is that their advertising might have been a little exaggerated, but then that's advertising for you.0 -
I think the only thing you can do is try to sell the mattress and put any money you get from it into a Tempur-type matress.
We have a ViscoPro matress and it does get hot, very hot, but this is due to the fact it foam and not sprung. I think it's a negative point with every brand of memory foam.Foreign politicians often zing stereotypical tunes, mayday, mayday, Venezuela, neck

It is very unlikely that they haven't received any complaints previously, as ther have been mixed reviews on MSE.
You didn't say which model you bought, but the flexcell mattresses are all either reflex foam with memory foam, or reflex foam encapsulated pocket springs with memory foam. Both of these types prevent air circulating under the memory foam layer to dissipate the heat. This is also the case with Tempur.
The only way to improve ventilation is to buy a mattress with full size steel springs under the memory foam. There are also sometimes options of climate control fabrics like Climasmart or Outlast which regulate the temperature.
Also as Halloway says, buy from a seller with a satisfaction guarantee.0 -
Thanks to you all for your comments. The mattress is all foam and we should have checked the returns policy but as they say hindsight is a wonderful thing!
What has annoyed me most is the attitude of the retailer, in theses hard times we decided to support an independant retailer rather than a multipule. When I rang to discuss the problem he said " I don't do exchanges or refunds lots of people buy a mattress because they have got guests coming, then make out there is something wrong with it to try and get their money back when the guest has gone." We would have been happy to have exchanged it for another mattress and paid extra...Sadly we will stick to the multipules in future.0 -

Sadly though, the retailer is undoubtedly correct in what he says. As a parallel example I think Argos now exclude video cameras from their 'no-quibble' returns policy because so many people were buying a camera on a Friday, filming the wedding or whatever on the Saturday and then returning the camera on a Sunday.0 -

The retailer is correct in some cases, but this is rare. They are probably using it as an excuse because they don't have confidence in the products they sell, and probably realise that for the same reasons that you don't like the mattress, that many other customers would also return the mattress. You will struggle to find satisfaction guarantees with most of the big chain stores. It is usually smaller on line retailers who do because they realise that you can't try them out before you buy.0
