Is a cellist appropriate ?

there is plenty of really beautiful music written for solo 'cello, so I'm sure if you find a decent 'cellist then you'll get a really good repetoire and it'll sound fantastic...however it's personal opinion and I think a 'cello actually works quite well for background music as it isn't too loud and overbearing, it blends in well and unless it's a performance everyone is going to be chatting and not wanting to compete with a full quartet. Thanks for those links Horce, I'll have a look : )
jonny power, I guess you've seen both a cellist and a quartet, did you not think the cello sounded a little low and well, may be more suited to a funeral? some of my friends said it will be fab but I just need a little convincing myself. Thank you for replying.
it's completely up to you, best thing is to either listen to some example music (plenty on Spotify).0
