Just had a chat with sister, she's been watching EG and has had the revelation that you can cook with leftovers, and it's a good idea to meal plan around what you've got in. No wonder she was struggling on £30 a week!

I checked the pork steak I took out to defrost, it was still rock solid so I nipped out and got a cheap bit of meat (39p), and some milk and stuff that I needed, and in the half an hour or so I was gone the pork steak has defrosted. And turned into chicken. Anyone got any ideas of what herbs to put on it, I was going to do jerk pork but I don't think it'll work with chicken. Nothing fancy, just stick the herbs on the meat and put in grill machine!

Cat, I can't believe they didn't tell you before, I mean, it's not unusual for babies to eat is it!
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

    Evening!

Toto, hope Jas is okay, poor thing.

Re the bank account, not sure which is best but couple of maybe-useful things to consider:

If he is paid to the UK, he will possibly have to pay a fee every time the money arrives -might be worth checking with your bank and see what they charge to receive a foreign currency payment into the account. If he was paid into a US account, you can transfer money over as and when you need to, so if you can last 2 months between transfers, that would cut down on fees.

If he is paying tax in the US, can he get gross interest paid on his account here? I know if you actually live abroad you can complete a 'Not Ordinarily Resident' form (NORD form), and have your interest paid gross, but no idea if this applies in his situation.

Your bank might (does... ;)) offer a foreign currency account, so you could actually have a US Dollar account with a UK bank....but I have no idea about these, sorry, not something I deal with. I've a feeling they are more or less like a savings account, so you can't have direct debits and stuff set up on them, but possibly transferring funds between that account and your main account might be easier. Don't think you can operate it online though, have to use the telephone banking service.

If he is paid to a US account, you can play the exchange rates a bit, ie transfer money over when the rate is more favourable, rather than just having the money transferred over as and when they pay you.

In conclusion....I have no idea.... :rotfl:

Sammy - I am just picturing the mailshot....pink pants with your particular company name on them....people would DEFINITELY get the wrong idea about what you were offering... :rotfl:

Thanks snags that's helpful :) I think I will open a $ account with my bank, at some point we are going to need a $ mortgage and I'd like to do that with who I'm with.
