  • You also become a cheap drunk - I used to be a right lush, could drink 6 pints of stella (im a girl) and other drinks on top in a session, but now I'm a lot more relaxed about how much and how often I drink. I agree with the £150 gone in a weekend, we used to go out all night on Friday, then go to the pub on Saturday for hair of the dog. Maybe that's the reason I'm now able to pay an extra £500 a month towards my debt!
Well done for resisting and staying in - you have so much more free time when it's not spent hungover lying in a dark room!

Old Iron Balls, it gets easier, I know it doesn't help with the nice weather, a bit of sun and Im in the mood for a lager and lime in a beer garden somewhere!

We stay in on a Friday and without wanting to sound too sad I quite enjoy it! The telly isnt too bad, theres always a dvd to watch or we download something. We used to have take aways Fridays and Saturdays but I cook on a Friday now to save even more money, so I enjoy my Saturday treat even more.

When you start seeing the money your saving on nights in build up, you will feel a lot better especially if your hangover free too!

We stay in usually on Saturdays too and it is possible to have a treat without breaking the bank. We go for a nice long walk together (it gives us the chance to catch up without interruptions from the kids), come back and slouch in front of the tv (including Millionnaire!!)with a bottle of wine (NOT expensive stuff either). In fact, if anyone asks us out now on a Saturday, we'd sometimes rather stay in, how sad is that?!! But with kids, you get used to staying in while they have the social life you used to enjoy!!

Afternoon Old Iron Balls. How does it feel not to have a hangover today...? I wonder if you are up & about and busy doing things on this fine sunny day.

I know what you mean about the old Friday nights.....I used to be out every Friday and Saturday for 2 years straight. (See signature for evidence).

What you need to do is look at this as a challenge. How can you have some fun/be social without (to be frank) p***ing away £60 a night.

Are there any cheap gigs going on at pubs/clubs near you? £5 to get in and you can make a pint or two last a while. If you are close to town then you don't need a taxi home I guess.

Can you have a party at your place? Bring a bottle type of thing.

Are you with a partner? If you are, Friday nights in really do become more "manageable". Especially if you sign up to the different DVD hire places through Quidco and earn some cash doing it! (Dont' forget to cancel in time!) Free dvd's and you get paid for it...bonus night in!

If you aren't with a partner (sorry, I don't know your circumstances) then how about inviting someone around for a meal...you can practice your culinary skills and have some company..they'll bring a bottle of wine I'm sure.

How about taking your OH or a date to the cinema. OK it's not free but it's cheaper than a night on the lash. Going out for a couple of beers (I did say a couple!) afterwards could be great too...time to chat.

You don't need to do these things every weekend...but once a month or so will break up the monotony.

Have to say though- I really love not having hangovers anymore. In fact now when I go out and wake up the next morning avec hangover I get really annoyed with myself!

I drove home from work at 10.45pm, saw a few drunks staggering in the road and propping up the kebab shop counter as I drove past. Then I got home and had one can of lager. I really felt like going to the pub at lunchtime yesterday when I started work. The weather was glorious.

It's pi$$ing down now on my only day off this weekend.

I stayed in last night and had a great time. My OH and I watched a DVD of Japanese animation or something and it was full of flying cats wearing suits and inanimate objects talking and fighting. It was like being !!!!faced but without the drugs.

I worked til 10 last night. Havent been out for ages , but have friends over for champions league final soon and with my free grub from work , and them bringing beer , who needs out.

I have limited myself to one night out and two lunches out. Despite being skint , socializing is important. My budget for going out per month £40

I dont drink anymore when i go out as I tend to feel guilty and cab home is a fortune. I am nominated driver and our deal is nominated driver doesnt buy drink or food.

When I do stay in though , its a DVD (borrowed from sister) and a pasta and tuna meal.

But I tend to work evenigns at weekends. Money is ok and i dont get bored

  • Why not indeed!!

Wish I'd stayed in last night, really felt like !!!!!!, wasted a whole day!! It was a planned night out and I stayed within budget, but now not being used to drinking I was hammered!! Cheap date now! But boy did I regret it today!! I actually prefer not having a raging hangover now, how did I ever do it every weekend for god knows how long??!!! And anyway, more money to throw at the debts! £60 a night is LOADS! I managed £20 for a meal, pudding and drinks.

Still don't feel too much like a human bean yet!!!
