How to wipe a hard drive

Got a 20gb hard drive, hoping to sell but how do i go about wiping it easily.

Would i have to install it on a computer. Wouldn't like to introduce it to my masterpiece to be honest!

Many thanks in advance to the experts :D

Just slave it up to your machine , assuming you have windows xp , go to control pannels - Admin Tools- Computer management - disk management and delete the partition

Other wise in just use fdisk

although it's possible to reteive data from 6 partition wipes ago in some cases:beer:
If it doesn't fit, force it; if it breaks, it needed replacement anyway

it will need reformatting...if you've upgraded a drive just connect it to your system as slave (need to change jumpers or connect it on the secondary IDE channel...other cable usually connected to cd rom) and when you boot into windows goto my computer and look to see if the drive is there...if it is just right mouse button click in it, goto format and then follow what is asked.

Another option is to get a win 98 boot floppy, boot to the "A" prompt and then type format c:\

Only one problem with just formatting and not deleting the partition table , its soooo easy to recover all of the files you just formated !:money:

Considering what price a used 20Gb drive might fetch (less than tenner on Ebay), it hardly seems worth all the effort.

I find DBAN to be the best software for (securely) erasing hard disks
