The invoice can be completely ignored. A solicitor is not needed. Do not contact them as it will show them you have taken the bait and they will keep on coming with scarier letters.

The worrying thing is that if they have genuinely got a photo of the number plate in that location then there is a clone of the car around. Was the car in another car park at that time and maybe they have got mixed up.
  • Most likely they misread the number from cctv and got her details from dvla.
    Normal advice applies.
    IGNORE
    IGNORE.
    Don't reply
    Don't contact
    Dont Pay.
    Just don't stress over it.

thanks to all who post xx

  • Why bother the police, they won't be interested in a civil matter. Just ignore them.
Its a lot easier and less stressful.

The Police may not be that interested. Certainly the desk person will not be well versed in the legal aspects and is highly likely to more motivated to convince customers to return to the street without creating any work for the constabulary. Sadly that is a fact of modern policing.

You may need to talk you way through the desk person to get to someone in authority - at least an Inspector if you can. Be firm but insistent and remain calm at all times.

I would recommend drawing attention to the age of the victim, their vulnerability and to Section 2 of the Fraud Act 2006 which is most certainly not a "civil matter".
Get a crime number as you will be reporting a crime.
  • I stand corrected Sir.
