Interesting one! Erm I dont no much about what I guess is probably hardware problems. But can I just tell you to check for stupid problems such as
is the volume turned up?
Is the speaker cable plugged into the back of the computer?
Is your computer set to mute?
Is the volume on your computer low?
Are your speakers switched on?0 -

goto device manager (either through control panel, system properties, hardware...or by the windows key and pause/break on the keyboard) and look to see if there is any sound items (sound, video controller) which has a yellow exclemation mark next to it. if it doesn't then the problems isn't software if it has uninstall and then reboot. that usually cures problems like that you have describedWelcome, rogerramjet.

I second the check for clashes (as per rogerramjet), if it was working when you got it and stopped when you started installing things could well be a resource conflict. If there is an yellow exclamation mark you can change the settings by going into properties and the resources tab.
The stuff you installed was it software or hardware?
Also if you have a headset output on the front might be worth seeing if sound is coming out there...just to confirm it's not the speakers!:hello: TTC since 11/090 -

Bit late now like but...
If it ever happens again, try this...
Control Panel, Sound and Audio Devices,
Tick - Place volume icon on task bar
Untick - Mute
If you install some software that needs audio it can mute the soundcard....prolyl cas its written badly.0
