Replacement Ikea Lampshade

Options
I have an Ikea Arko uplighter and have broken the glass shade. Although they still sell the same lamp they insist that a replacement shade is not available which I find is incredible. The lamp cost about £45 last year and without the shade it is of no use at all. Any ideas where i could write to and complain would be appreciated, because I am getting nowhere with the store.

Is it completely broken and do you still have the glass?

It was broken into quite a few bits some of them small, and we threw it away not expecting to have so much trouble getting a replacement as the lamp is still on sale.

have you had a look on the ikea website?
    try customer services for starters.

Sorry to say this, Millie, but it may not be worth the time and effort trying to get an exact replacement shade from Ikea.

Ikea are very good at coming up with spare parts for things which are produced in standard 'modules' e.g. screws, cupboard hinges, shelves, etc. Parts like glass lamp shades, however, are usually made specifically for a particular lamp unit (often in a Far Eastern or Eastern European factory) and they do not usually keep spares. I had a similar problem with an Ikea 'PS' standard lamp - the glass shade broke and I couldn't get a replacement anywhere! In the end, I managed to find a white fabric shade which fitted OK - it doesn't look the same of course, but at least it's usable :o .

You may be able to find a similar replacement shade from somewhere like B&Q.

I used to work at IKEA in home dec which at more store was next door to the lighting dept. I often had customers ask me similar questions to this.

Depending on the size of the store it maybe that they do provide have the replacement shades but just don't stock them all have you looked on the website?

On the other hand maybe they just don't do replacement shades, which isn't a crime is it? what would your complaint be exactly that they don't do the replacements, I cannot see you getting very far with this.

If you had bought it more recently I would have said to box it up and take it back say it got broke in transit but it would have been at least three months ago.
If no-one expected shirts to be ironed then we'd all have time for more important things:T

I never suggested that it was a crime, I just find it difficult to understand that as they are still selling them, they cant obtain a spare shade, they are still being produced. If the lamp had only cost a few pounds I would dump it, but it was £45. Do they just throw their stock away if any of the lamps come into the store damaged

It depends on the extent of the damage so if you brought it back with a small scratch for example then it would go to bargain corner but if you brought it back smashed then the broken parts would be thrown any spares would be put aside in case any of the stock on the floor needed replenishing when customers sometimes take things out of the boxes

Have you looked in the bargain corner you might find a damadged one, I get what you say though if I spent £45 on a lamp I would not want to let it go easily

I have bought a couple of lamps without shades (really cheaply) in the Bargain corner, so I guess that's exactly what they do with them. I bought different lampshades for them and now I don't get visitors pointing at them and saying that they 'saw those in Ikea' like they do with some of my other stuff....

My experience of IKEA is that it's great for nice and cheap homeware, but the customer service is appalling - and they seem to take a pride in it!!!

(Sorry to the earlier poster - I don't mean that the individual staff are appalling at all, but just that the company policy is to keep prices down by keeping things simple, ie few assistants available, limited returns policy, etc). It wouldn't surprise me in the least that they don't do spare parts.

Hope you manage to find something though....

    Best wishes
