Laptop Warranty

Hi Guys

Advise needed please. We bought a HP laptop from PC World in April.

2 or 3 weeks ago I shut the laptop down at night and it was all fine. When I opened it up in the morning in the same situation without anyone else having looked at it, it looked the screen behind the main plastic screen has broken.

It looked like ink had leaked over the bottom right corner. We hadnt done anything to the laptop or caused this to happen, and there were no obvious signs of damage to the outer screen or the back of the laptop.

We sent this off to PC World via courier for them to look at under warranty and they have sent this back to us saying they have returned it in the same state as it isnt covered.

Can anyone help with this issue, as we havent caused the damage and we dont know if it is a fault with the laptop????

Thank you for any replies

Does it seem as if it has been damaged (maybe even without realising it when shutting the lid)

You could ask for a report from where you sent it to and then if they say its damaged then you may be able to claim for it on your household insurance if you have accidental damage cover.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

If you believe that the laptop is faulty and the problem isn't caused by accidental damage then your best option is to speak to PC World.

All though I can under the engineers on this one. A cracked screen is usually caused by the laptop being dropped, something heavy being dropped on it, etc. I suppose an underlying fault with the laptop could have caused it to crack but I don't know how likely that is.

Be prepared for PC World to ask you for proof that it is a fault rather than damage. I.E. An independent engineer's report.

Yeah, techguys, their otherside to the business has asked for an independant report. Another thing, when we bought the laptop they offered us their service and when we mentioned about the warranty they said that everything in the warranty would cover the same as their service, but obviously this isnt the case. Not sure how things stand with this.

I think I will write a complaint letter to tech guys and see where that gets us.
