we are moving house and to reconnect bt want the usual £122. i know there is a free connection at the minute but i dont think we'd even make the 30 call per quarter needed as we hardly ever use the phone, more for internet connection. anyhow where can i find out who will give me a phone line apart from bt, like putting in my postcode or something?

Making the 10 calls per month is easy and cost-free.snagglepuss16 wrote: »we are moving house and to reconnect bt want the usual £122. i know there is a free connection at the minute but i dont think we'd even make the 30 call per quarter needed as we hardly ever use the phone, more for internet connection. anyhow where can i find out who will give me a phone line apart from bt, like putting in my postcode or something?
Make a list of the 01 or 02 telephone numbers of at least 10 takeaways (the internet will find thousands for you). They need not be local. Call the first on your list during your call plan's 'free' calls period (at weekends at least) and, when answered, apologise for misdialling and hang up. 20 seconds of your time spent.
Repeat with another 9 on your list.
Less than 5 minutes later and the task is complete for the month.
I'd say that amount of effort is well rewarded by a £122 saving.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I think that there is a geographical number for a speaking clock, not BT's one, but I remember seeing it on this website as an 0207 number if I remember correctly. Just call that 10 times a month and when you hear the person speaking the time hang up and no need to talk to anyone!
Excellent idea from Heinz though!

Even if you used another supplier they would not offer you free connection.0

Does this count as part of the inclusive calls as it's an 0800 number?
