Unadopted road parking

Good morning,
I own a house on a private road. As far as I am aware the homeowners on the road own the footpath and are responsible for the maintanance of the road.
There is a public park opposite my house, the main entrance for the park is not on our road, however people do tend to use this entrance and park outside our house. This isn't a problem as it's usually during the day when we're all at work anyway.
The problem I have is with a neighbour who lives on another private road (off ours) continuously parking right outside our house day and night. He starts work before after me and comes home before me so rarely see him but every time I leave or enter my house his car is always right outside on the road.
On one occasion last week I confronted him and asked him politely if he could park on his own road, outside his own house or find somewhere else to park rather than outside our house, to which he rudely responded 'this is a public highway, I'll park where I like'.
While I'm not overly bothered about him parking there it would have been nice if for whatever reason he didn't want to park outside his own house if he'd have asked, or at least been nice to me when I confronted him.
It is an inconvenience him parking there as it makes it more difficult to get out of our driveway, and if the park is busy I sometimes have to park quite a way from the house.
Can I stop him parking here? Is there anything I can do?
Any comments would be appreciated.
Cheers,
John

I like your thinking, however, this would also prevent me and others parking there..
Might paint myself a box, personalised parking space with my name on it

Have you checked you deeds to see if there is anything there whiach mught apply to him as well. Also do you have a residents association you could speak to mediate/advise -I assume you do so you can maintain the road. Also why is he not parking o/s his own house?0
