Wireless printing.

I have a laptop, which i use with a BT voyager wireless modem/router thing and wireless card.

Is there a cheap and simple way of using the equipment i have,so that i am able to print wireless-ly (sp) with my Brother printer?

You need something called a print server you can buy the Belkin one for around £35 which plugs into your wireless router with an ethernet cable. Or if you have a very expensive posh printer you may have an enthernet socket on your printer, in this case plug a cable into them both.

Remember that you must have the printer software installed on all the computers you wish to print from.

    Right....few different solutions....

If the brother is not networkable, and only has a usb port, you could try a belkin wireless print server, for about £50 delivered this should make the printer wireless. I have used one of these for a client, and it allowed two HP printers to be on the network wirelessly. It should work with the brother, but it can never be guaranteed (sorry!).

If the brother printer is networkable then easiest thing to do is plug it into the router (with a cable), once on the same network as your laptop, you will be able to configure to print to the networked printer over wireless.

If the brother is networkable, and you want the brother to be connected to the router wirelessly, then get yourself a game adaptor, this plugs into the network port of the brother, and then connects to the wireless network. At this point everything is wireless, and on the network, so you should be able to configure it to print ok.

**edit, took far too long being too complex with my explanation, and was beaten to it**

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
The Linksys wireless print server (WPS54GU2) has both parallel and USB ports - around £80 from PC World.

Might be an obvious question: Am I right in saying that you only have you laptop or do you have another computer?

Correct,i only have the laptop....i havn't got room for anything else!

I have just had a look at the printer,it hasn't got any other ports? etc, just the USB cable,so i will have to get one of those Belkin thingies.
