Fitting of shower quote

Hi all
I have an empty cupboard in my (quite big) bathroom that used to house a hot water cylinder. I had a combi installed 18 months ago so its sitting empty and is a waste of space. I have had a guy round to find out about putting a shower in there and he has just come back with a quote to do the following:
* knock out wall above cupboard door and make good
* build stud wall along one side to allow access to water pipes
* install thermostatic shower including 900mm tray, door, tiles etc etc.
The cost is £1200. Is it fair?
Thanks

Hi HarriettPotter
Couple of questions for you
1. how many quotes have you had - advise min of 3
2. who is supplying the materials & shower unit/tray etc.
3. could not you and/or a friend remove the cupboard doors and wall to reduce the labour bill ??
regards

Hi Dave...
This is the only quote I have had and he fitted our central heating so I do know he is good... would be worth checking out others though so will do.
Yes they are good cost reducing suggestions I will talk them over with the person I own the house with...
Its tempting to take him up on it as the price is for supply and fitting of everything. I wouldn't have to lift a finger!!0 -
I would want a more detailed quote.
I'd want to know what the shower is being constructed of (plasterboard or tile backer board such as Aquapanel).
Is it being tanked?
How is the shower tray being fitted? (on a sand cement bed on a purpose built wooden base?)
If he's doing all that then the price is very reasonable indeed, if He's not then it isn't so reasonable.
Never be frightened to ask for details, a good installer will talk you through any part of it.0 -

Definately get more quotes. Tradesmen will charge what they think they can get away with. I know I've done jobs before and built up a rapport with the clients and realised I could get away with a little more on subsequent jobs.0
