Change of career...hope i've done the right thing!

I've worked in the NHS since i left school in various clerical roles and although i have learnt alot in those roles i feel as though i have so much more to offer.
The job is in the maternity department and i feel i have a lot to bring to this role and like the idea of helping women, their families and their babies.
I just hope the fact that i've got no real experience of working on a ward doesn't hold me back because as you say sometimes the life experience can be just as important.
I've read up on health care assistant jobs and understand that sometimes its the smaller, trivial jobs that can really make a difference to someone's stay in hospital.
This is a job i've thought about doing for a few years now but never really had the guts to make the change but i feel if i don't do this now i never will.
i'll let you know how it goes!
