Hi I hope someone can advise. I'm with AOL broadband, have been for about 2 years. Previously I had dial up with Freeserve. All of a sudden, over the last couple of weeks, Freeserve keeps appearing all the time. I would have thought it was disabled after all this time! Can anyone advise how I can stop it popping up all the time?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Start, Settings, Control Panel, Network Connections. Highlight Freeserve and delete it. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

By Popping up I take it you mean a dial up connection box with your old freeserve details in it.
If this is the case, click on Tools in Internet Explorer, then internet options and then on the connections tab.
Within the Connections tab highlight the radio button at the top "never dial a connection".
I believe you can also delete the freeserve dial up connection in control panel, network connections within the dial up section.
Hope this helps.0 -
I have had the same problem which was cured by deleting the dial up from my laptop. The problem is that I actually need to keep it on the network setting when I am away from home to use for dial-up. Can any one find another cure?Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

Ok I've just crashed my computer! Don't know why? It's actually internet explorer that keeps appearing all the time, AOL has it's own version which is the one I use. So I want to stop explorer rather than freeserve I think.
Thanks for the help so far, hope someone can advise.Total debt May 2005 £83,232

Make sure AOL Web Browser is set as default and that IE is set to not to check to see if it is the default browser. Also make sure your system is clean of any pests thats may be trying to open IE with a slighty suspicious site0

Well I dont know how to set AOL as the default browser as I am not an AOL user and IMHO I would never reccomend anyone to AOL. But it should be somewhere in the options menu. Just have a play around.
But I can help you with the spyware side of things.
If you use Windows XP go to www.microsoft.com and find a link to download Windows Defender Beta 2
Install this, follow the easy steps and complete a FULL SYSTEM SCAN
Delete any pests you find
Then install Spybot Search and Destroy
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/
After you have installed it complete the confguration wizard and then run a scan. Delete anything it finds!
You will need an AOL user to help you on setting AOL as your default, but personally I would use Mozilla Firefox.0 -
Thanks for this, I'll give it a try. BTW I contacted AOL help, and they didn't.Total debt May 2005 £83,232

When you say Internet explorer keeps appearing - what are you doing at the time? Are you starting AOL or does it just randomly appear?0
