We have lived in our property for about 2 1/2 years now which is a normal sized 3 bed end terrace. For the first 9 months we didn't live in the property as we were renovating it. Our gas & electric went down to only £40 per month during this period. When we moved in the bill went up after the first 3 months to £80 per month which we fully expected. After only another 6 months the monthly total went up to £160. To our amazement, after only another 3 months the monthly direct debit went up to a incredible £232 per month!! They informed me that it was as we were repaying arrears which I 'eventually' agreed to. For the last 12 months now we have being paying this rate and we have just received a bill for £700 arrears! We have for the last 3 months took the direct debits off and read our own meters to try and see if that makes a difference, to which it really hasn't. This bill landed through our door today and they were on the phone by dinner time chasing it. (Isn't due for another week!). A lady said she understood and would ring me back tonight at a more convenient time - She didn't, only to receive a call from 'Stirling Collections Department' to say how will you be paying this bill!? I gave the lady our recent meter reading to see if that made a difference only for her to say that we now owe, £896.29!!! I find it amazing that we were originally only £250-£300 in arrears 12 months ago and been paying £232 a month for 12 months and still have this much outstanding especially as we have had 2 summers in that space of time where we haven't used any heating? The best off all though is the fact that we have gone further in arrears this month with the gas, when for the last 5-6 weeks we haven't had a boiler as it was water damaged hence no central heating!!!!:rotfl:
Can someone please help us out as it getting beyond a joke with these people. Whenever you ring them, it's a case of pay or else.
