Hey, I was wondering if anyone could help me. Im currently studying A2 English Language and have to do an investigation as part of my coursework. I have chosen to do mine on how people of different ages are spoken to and treated in shops and call centres. If anyone has any experiences, good or bad, could you tell me about them and your age to use as research into my project?
Thank you =]

Hiya, sorry I can't think of anything off the top of my head, but is there anyway you could do a survey? You may get more responses and it would be easier to correlate the results:j30/7/10:j

I agree with durham_girl, a survey would get more responses.
I used to work in a call centre, and tbh I don't think age is really relevant, but more how old someone sounds. I would be more relaxed with someone that sounds younger, however I often went on to find that they were much older than they sounded!Gone ... or have I?0 -
treated as workers or as customers?0

you came to the right place! you will find loads of research material on new and old threads. if you see one that interests you why not PM the OP and ask if they would mind you using their story? they may even tell you thier age. explain why you are doing this (I would type it all up in Word then you can copy and paste it in PM)0

As you get older, most people become more assertive/confident, so although initially staff may treat you differently depending on age, the rest of your treatment will depend on your assertiveness/confidence.
I've seen shops try and rip of old people before (short changing) and treat them like they're stupid!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Ive considered surveys but with it being a case study I need examples and that. Ill have a look through all the posts though when I have less coursework etc!
But thank you all for posting, its really helped =]

I posted this a little while ago - though I am afraid it's only a hearsay example

I tend to accept that you are treated with the same respect and admiration you portray, whether your a customer or member of staff. There are exceptions occasionally, but at the end of the day, everyone is human, no matter what uniform they wear:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
