BOS and HALIFAX - both counted as one?

Hi
I am just off the phone to the BOS to try and get a refund of a £30 charge. I have not had a refund on this acc for years but did get one recently on my HALIFAX account.
I was told no as I had a refund on the HALIFAX account.
These accounts were opened separately years ago(20 plus) and are run independant of each other.
Is that true?
I am so angry as the money was there to pay the DD. Seems it now needs to be there the day before(changed 18 months ago).
Anyway. I think it is the push I need to reclaim all charges. My question is are the 2 accounts treated as one re charges?
Thanks!

Is one account Halifax, and the other one Bank Of Scotland?
That is odd imho since as you said they are separate accounts with allegedly two different banks who are trading within the Lloyds Banking Group umbrella.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

  • Yes

They are 2 separate accounts. The first opened was the BOS(Glasgow) in 1986. The second a Halifax opened in a Halifax Building Society in 1988(In Glastonbury).
I would have only had the HALIFAX one if I had been allowed to close the BOS one in the 90's but they said I had to keep it open for my mortgage(with BOS at the time).
I questioned the advice from the advisor but he insists all accounts count as one for a refund of a charge.

Maybe I should go into a branch of BOS and ask?

It took me a lot of courage to call them, I hate doing it!
  • That is a strange one since if the same was the case with NatWest/RBS, I am certain that RBS employee would not have that information on a NatWest account. Worth asking the question to Halifax if they have access to Bank Of Scotland accounts

  • I think they would have access to notes left about my calls?
I still dont accept that my accounts are one, they have different sort code etc.
My friend works for Abbey and I called her there. She said that she would deal with ditfferent accounts individually.

What if you had 3 HALIFAX accounts all with charges?
It shouldnt make any difference should it?

I totally agree with you on this one. But whether that makes a difference is another thing.

  • They have access to both Halifax/BOS current accounts when you call.
Relative confirmed one minute they are speaking to Halifax cust next call could be BOS cust.

However charges are separate on each account but you did say you had one refund years ago on the BOS account so that would prob of made the agent decline charge.

    Thanks for that Jonny!
I thought it was their policy to refund one charge in every 12 months?

I am going to go to the branch to ask them for advice, they might be more helpful - face to face.
