Please help removing radiator mark/stain

Hi everyone,
I hope you can help us on this one - we're due to move out of our rented flat at the end of May, but have made a mark on a radiator which I think we will be penalised for.
The radiators are electric 'economy 7' ones, and on one of them there is a black mark caused by a dress that was hanging too close to it one time when the radiator was on I guess. It was a stretchy dress probably with nylon, and although the dress was fine, the radiator now has grey burn marks on it.
How can we remove this as we've tried wiping it with cloths etc and nothing has worked so far?
Thanks

Hi Oddjob - thanks but the mark has always been dry (a grey burn on the metal) so we can't seem to do anything to it. As this is an economy 7 radiator, it's old and I wonder whether we could try sandpapering with fine sandpaper?
Any pointers from anyone gratefully received, thanks.

try buffing the metal and if al else fails put anice plant in the way otherwise put it down general wear and tear. A small amount of mistakes are allowed when renting such as scuffs and scrapes. As long as this is the only mark in the whole flat then you could prob argu the case as general wear and tear you could paint the walls black with pink spots it might also distract from the markTHE SHABBY SHABBY FOUNDER0

Economy 7 rad finishes are fairly tough. But sandpaper will take off the surface and definitely leave an alternative mark that you'll need to post about;)
Try a fine scouring cream used lightly - or Tcut, as used on car bodywork? If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
I'd get a tin of spray paint from somewhere like Halfords and having covered the flooring/carpet with old newspaper give the radiator a light coating. I'm sure you'll find a reasonable colour match. The cost is about a fiver.0

Thanks Mikeyorks & StrawberryLane - sounds like light scouring first then if that doesn't work, spray paint!
OddJob - She's quite an uptight landlady so I don't think we'd get away with hiding it with a plant... or with blacn paint and pink spots ;o(
Thanks again!

had word with my OH (hes a chemist) and he suggested trying metholated spirits or nail varnish both remover diluted in water. And as on all these things try on an inconspicuous (?sp) area. He said the Nail varnish may affect the paint finish as might the meths, but probably not as much as sanding down.
Hope this helps.0
