Sky - referrals

Hello, I was after some advice from you guys. I have moved into a new flat and would like to get Sky. It is a conservation area and upstairs already have a dish so I would require planning permission for a new dish, don’t really want to go down this route.

So I have chatted with upstairs and they said I could use theirs. Phone Sky and they aren’t really happy but they said they would do it.

Now they have normal Sky and I said I may be able to get them a free/cheap upgrade to Sky plus. I read here that referrals were getting cheaper Sky plus boxes.

Phoned Sky and they said no deal, they would have to pay £250 for an upgrade. Now Sky must be laughing, they don’t have to pay for a new dish for myself, only a bit of cabling and time and they wouldn’t move on this price.

Has anyone recently got a cheaper sky plus box on referral? The customer service guy was quite adamant that I was not getting anything "free" as he put it. I was thinking of paying for the upgrade for upstairs but £250? ?!

Does anyone have any tips that may help, I am not after anything for free but a bit of a compromise from them would be nice.

Regards

Hugh

I used to do telesales for Sky (a long time ago) and from what I can remember they don't charge you to get the engineer to your house.

so what I would do is:

Step 1.) Sign up through their customer services line. to get Sky plus
Step 2.) Wait till the engineer comes out
Step 3.) Ask him to connect you to the guy upstairs' dish.

I don't know how legal this is or if the engineer would do it, but I am fairly certain they won't charge the engineer to come out.

I don't know if it'll work, but it may be worth a try.
