Debt Managers Ltd

has anybody heard/ had dealings with this company
my next debt of 217.85 was sold to them and i recieved a letter 25th april i kinda forgot about it untill today

i just recieved a phone call from a rude impatient sounding woman demanding full payment before 8pm tonight, i told her i did not have this so it has to be half this month half 1st june

i could probably just about manage this but asked what happened if i could not pay this in the 2 amounts suggested her answer i will be taken to court, she went on to say i have kids so i should pay it out of my child benifit and tax credits when i recieve them this month

i now have to ring back with my dh amount he earns and what we have to pay out for (ok this has been done for us by payplan) but we have nothing spare as payplan take it (as it was i forgot to add my sons playschool which is approx 120 per month so we are stretched already as such as we take it out of food/clothing budget allowance)

what can they do to me as such and can they demand this money in the 2 instulments obviously i dont want to be taken to court, feeling really stressed out now having just come out of hospital for pre labour

grr rant over sorry it makes not much sense i just cannot belave how rude and abrupt some people can be

  • Hi fizzel,

I am so sorry that I can't help as I don't have any experience of the above. I just wanted to say that I hope you and the baby are okay. Lots of hugs

    Hi fizzel

I think the first thing you should do is talk to payplan. They will be able to advise you on what to do. You don't say whether this debt is included in your payplan arrangements? If so, just record all correspondence and notify Payplan. If not, you need to speak to Payplan asap as I believe one of their conditions is that you must notify them of all your creditors, so that they can be treated fairly.

Either way, you need to ring them asap to get some advice. If the payments are going to cause big problems for you then you don't want to let anyone force you into making them.

You need to let Payplan know about your son's playschool costs as well - the idea of their budget is that it is manageable and taking £120 out of your food/clothes budgets is not going to leave you with much?!

It is a very stressful process, even worse if you have been in hospital, but hopefully Payplan can help you negotiate with this "Debt Managers Ltd" - whoever they are!

    Good luck :D

  • Can I ask, is the Next debt with your PayPlan DMP? If it is, all you need to do is tell the DCA that you're with PayPlan and that you'll get PayPlan to contact them. Don't let them scare you. It's disgusting that she suggested you use your child benefits to pay them.

They may think they can demand and threaten, but you can't give them money you don't have, and as you're on a DMP you're treating all of your creditors fairly. They can say they'll take you to court but they know that the courts will see that you're doing the right thing.

Ring PayPlan and talk to them. They should handle all of these calls on your behalf. Don't let them bully you.

    Good luck.

Don't do that! I think you will be opening yourself up to trouble. Payplan are dealing with your debts. Ring them and be up front, tell them you forgot about the Next debt and can they add it to your DMP. Then get them to ring the snotty woman and deal with her. In my experience - if you really don't want to ring payplan and add the debt, offer what you think you will manage, not what they want you to pay. If they refuse, pay what you have offered anyway.

If they start court proceedings it will take time for them to do this. If you have made an offer to pay and are sticking to it, the court will not look favourably at the debt chasing people. If you have made the payments and it DOES go to CCJ you will have a further 28 days to pay the final balance before the CCJ becomes registered onto your account.

Hope things get better for you soon. xx

:j And you must ring Payplan with the playgroup fees, they can only help if you are upfront with them..

thank you for the advice, will ring paypaln and beg them to add it to our dmp, if they cannot then i will just have to ring this company back up and see what they will do.
i know that at a push my mil would pay it for me and me pay her back BUT i really do not want to do that route she has helped us out a few times before for this and that and althrough we always pay her back it doesnt stop me feeling guilty

I agree, i wouldnt think they are going to take you to court over £200. It would cost them sooo much in court costs and no judge is going to make you pay what you can not afford anyway. Offer what you can. Send them a letter saying that you can only affoer to pay X and send a cheque for whatever you can manage at the moment as a token gesture.

Good luck and lots of hugs!

who exactly rang you and was it about a NEXT account as I am with the CCCS and my debt from Next has been passed onto Moorcroft who are deying all knowledge of ever having been contacted. If it is a NEXT account then I would suspect that they are also Moorcroft - look for my thread earlier today re Moorcroft and MSL

yes it was a next account but it wasnt moorcroft (delt with these before and found moorcroft not too bad but it was only for a silly amount)
