Your signature says it all Chigley - not sure why you feel the need to post in this forum when you are obviously so completely, perfectly flawless in every way - good luck to you, but please - take your views somewhere where they would add value, rather than sitting in judgment.....
Beginning to worry a bit about you Marthasdad.
Within this thread a number of posters have suggested getting rid of the TV package and putting the £700 ish saved towards paying down debt, and each time you have told them they are being judgemental and should not bother posting.
Do you work for Sky or Virgin by any chance?

And here was me thinking you'd gone away!

No, I do not work for them and, if you bothered to read my posts properly, you would realise that I wholly support tring to cut down costs, especially on things like Sky/telephone etc., I just don't support people who sit in judgment like you and accuse people of not wanting to tackle their problems, when their posting on here is looking for help and advice.

The OP had an immediate problem she had to deal with and she was seeking advice on that - part of the medium/long term solution is to cut down on the luxuries, but your comments will not assist her in dealing with the pressing issues she is experiencing!

  • Hi Jayne. I'm not sure quite why your thread has got so heated to be honest. Hopefully you can look past this and move on.
Yes Sky is a luxury - yes it will probably have to go, however as another Op said there are options ie watching programmes on the internet, getting a cheap digital box/freeview etc, getting maybe the od DVD from the library etc, maybe doing a sawp with a friend of you have some DVD's already. Also there are lots of other fun/cheap things you can do - it will be an adjustment and it might be hard at first but you'll get there.
Anyway hopefully you can come back later and post your SOA.
    Best of Luck

Yes it does - and if a few more people lived like that then they, and this whole country to a larger extent would not be in the mess it now finds itself.

Another favourite 'quote' of mine is "a fool and his money are soon parted" - read into that what you will.

Another recent thread was from someone who was moaning about always being in debt and how fed up he was, just before posting the fact he had signed up for a £45 per month iphone - I have never had a 'new' mobile phone in my life, relying on hand-me-downs, and always on pay as you go. Why if some folks are in so much debt do they carry on blowing cash? I just can't understand it, and it is for that reason that I pop in here sometimes to read such threads - you can call me voyeristic if you like, but it amazes me the lifestyles that some people try to lead, when they clearly cannot afford it.

Anyway, I am not some smug git on massive earnings, but was always brought up to realise the value of money, and to be very careful with it - which I am.

You need to do less 'hugging' and be more realistic in your outlook.....

  • Whilst I was setting up my DMP, I changed my phone number so creditors could not call me, they don't have to be able to contact you by phone. That way, when contact needs to be made, you are more in control of it. Just tell your phone company that you are being harrassed. This took a lot of stress away for me and it may be worth doing whilst you are waiting for your DMP to start. If they ask for your number, just give out your old one! Make sure that you make token payments to them also. Good luck

  • I'd say realistic rather than smug.
