Course cancelled, 3 days' notice and I have already incurred costs

I booked myself and my husband onto a course a few weeks ago. About a week after sending my booking form off, I had an email confirming my place but was warned that they needed 2 more people to make the course viable.
As there had been no warning at all during the booking process or in the T&Cs that cancellation was a possibility, by the time I got this email, I had already booked the hotel and train in order to get the cheapest tickets. The total cost of the hotel and train was £157.
I emailed them back and explained that I had already booked my train tickets and hotel and hoped that it would not be cancelled.
I then posted details about the course on various forums (including this one!) to try and spread the word and hope the last 2 places would be taken!
I have just heard, within the last hour, that the course is being cancelled as they didn't manage to find those 2 extra people for it - I am extremely annoyed as it was meant to take place this coming Saturday (so just 3 and a bit days' notice).
Do I have any rights here? Obviously we will make the best of it and have our weekend away as we have already paid for it, but it is very frustrating when we have already made arrangements to be away for this weekend (e.g. finding someone to cover for the charity work we do) etc, and to be honest I would rather stay at home this weekend now, were it not for the money we have already spent.

I would say that as you were warned that they might have to cancel (albeit not at the point of order) you are not entitled to any compensation for your costs, hopefully I am wrong though and that you have a lovely weekend away anyway!0
