Moved in with Fleas...

Well, we didn't cooose to, but they were already there. What are peoples verdicts on rent rebates for living with fleas?
Our LL sent around some flea spray cans, but after 5 days solid of bi-daily hoovering and spraying every night after everyone was asleep, I gave in and called the LL and let them know that this job was too big for one man alone, and this was a proper infestation!
The landlord sent some exterminators around on Thursday, and it is finally starting to be flea free, we've had 2 days without a sighting.
So this meant we could unpack our belongings on Saturday, but this is 2 weeks after we moved in. We have felt like we couldn't sit down, and have had to continually check our 9 week old baby while he sleeps to make sure they weren't on him. My partner got 19 bites on her legs one night, and at her peak had 47 red bites on her legs.
Do you think we are entitled to a discount this month on the rent? :T

Comments

  • Are you entitled to one? Probably not. Should you ethically get one? Yes, but it doesn't have to be massive, a week's rebate or something as goodwill. Seeing as you were having to do labout I'd expect a minimum of payment for the hours involved.

    It's pretty unpleasant.

Which spray did you get? The ones without egg retardant are rubbish, near useless. Those with egg retardant are normally great. We had a flea problem courtesy of the cat, and two cans of Acclaim and a hoover solved the problem, and it was fairly widespread if not in dozens of bites territory.

The spray seemed pretty good (well it stunk the house out for days). It did have retardent in. They bought a few cans, one of them was "Bob Martin Home Spray Plus" which seemed very strong and got me a bit dizzy a couple of times!
