  • Yes I would help her out. Being english is of no significance and i do believe in "doing unto others what i would have done with myself".
  • I'd pay the £10 for her definitely and hopefully if I ever found myself in a similar situation someone would help me too.... we need to get better at this sort of thing I know there are those that think there are a lot of "scammers" around but my daughter asked me yesterday why I thought that such a lot of people were "so angry" all the time? and never had time for each other? I really need to think about this one ....
  • I would and have helped people in the past. The most recent being me and my boyfriend got off at our station and walked out to overhear a girl, looked about 17, who'd also got off talking to the taxi drivers across the street. Turns out she was on her way back to a festival (said festival about a 10-15 min drive from the station as it's in a small village and doesn't have a station) and wanted to get the shuttle bus service they were putting on. Taxi drivers told her last one had just left and she would have to get a taxi at a £16 flat rate. She only had her bus ticket, everything else was back at the festival (silly, yes, but we've all been silly 17 year olds once!) They basically said sorry love.

My boyfriend and I were half way leaving the station at this point, I felt really bad, and he must of too because we just stopped and looked at each other thinking the same thing. We couldn't leave a young girl on her own in the middle of nowhere - so we clubbed together and walked back to find her wandering the station aimlessly.

At first she thought we were going too and were offering to ride with her. When it dawned we weren't and were just offering to pay for the taxi she looked completely shellshocked. She asked why we were doing this, we just said we didn't want to see a young woman on her own like that, you never know who's about. She gave us massive hugs each and offered to take my boyfriends number. He did give it out but we said she could just pay it forward instead. She went to the taxi and called us angels! Said we'd restored her faith in human kindness! We felt really good about it and walked home with big grins on :D

She never did get back to us, but we didn't expect her to really. However, karma came back a week later when my train to work was delayed by an hour. A lady who also got the train decided to drive in, and recognising me as a passenger who also went there offered me a lift!

When you're lost or stranded it's a scary thing. If I'd read in papers about some young girl trying to make her way to a festival miles away and getting mugged/attacked I'd have never forgiven myself.
Do good deeds and you could raise the curtain, do good deeds and you could really raise your life....
  • Yes I would pay the £10 to save them any further embarrassment & hope some kind person would assist me In my hour of need.
We all need friends & neighbours & good Samaritans!

  • not many people int he world who don't have a card to put this on - this reminds me of a scam in Nottingham Train Station, where a guy comes up with a new story every day "sorry mate, Ive just got out of hospital and...." "sorry mate, my uncle's ill in hospital in inverness..." "sorry mate, I just got out of prison..." - I often see him swapping his 'earnings' for notes in WHSmiths, Ive never once seen him on the train!

I suppose in this situation, at least you know that the woman legitimately wants the fare, but I always make sure that I am covered with credit cards/cash etc, so I'm not sure why I would want to bail out someone who isn't. its a difficult one though, I'm on the fence argh!
