MONEY MORAL DILEMMA. Would you contribute to a stranger’s train ticket?

A very similar thing happened to me a few days ago, my good samaritan gave me £30 and I would very much like to return it. I have no contact details.
If you're that person please can you get in touch, you helped me out when I needed it and I appreciate that greatly.
I don't wish to give out any further details - the person concerned will know who they are.0 -
This does smack of a con, but by the conductor. It reminds me of another Dilemma where we were asked if we would slip the attendant a fiver to exit a car park instead of paying the full amount. I may be a cynic, but I don't like to see people in distress either, regardless of their origin.
I would therefore establish as many of the facts as possible, including asking the conductor for his ID. I would then speak to another member of the train's staff to establish whether the guard was working within accepted protocol. Once satisfied that all was above board, I would by all means help the lady out.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0 -
Yes, I would contribute to the train ticket £2-3.00. If nobody else is helping out I would also consider giving her £10.00 but would ask her to pay it back and hope for the best.;)0

No. Anybody who purchases goods or services should make themselves aware of the conditions applying to that purchase. This was always known by the Latin 'Caveat Emptor' - let the buyer beware. Anybody entering into a contract this way should adhere to the conditions of that contract.0

Funny you should pose this question cos I lent a lass £20 at the ticket office, just to get the queue moving, if for no better motive, and never got it back! And yes I would do the same again for a small sum of money, but of course what is small to one may be unaffordable to another. Thanks for your great site. Best wishes to you all, Farmalama :eek:0

You’re on the train abroad, overhearing a ticket inspector talking to an English woman behind you. She hands her ticket to be checked but is told she’s got the wrong ticket (another network covers the same route) so she must pay £10 cash there and then or face a £50 fine. She's distraut as she doesn't have the cash on her, and starts asking if anyone would help.
I feel this question is flawed. Where else other than Britain is there such a stupid train system that you can have a 'wrong' ticket for a journey?0 -
