How much HDD space do you use/want on your console?

I am going to get a PS3 Slim, but I know Sony registered a 250Gb model as well the 120Gb that is available now. I assume that will come at a later date with a game bundled in, rather than having any extra functionality (e.g. the fabled backward compatibility) so the only real advantage will probably be the extra storage space so my question is:

How much space do you use on your console and do you wish you had more? What proportion of PS3 games have a mandatory install?

Joe

P.S. I know you can swap out the drives easily, but don't want to have to do that and I also don't want an xBox360!

I have a 60 GB Xbox 360, and I install a few games to my HDD. I'm one of those people who just plays one or two games at a time, so it's not a problem. I usually just have whatever I'm playing at the time on there. If you're the sort of person who plays lots of games frequently, you should probably get the largest HDD you can.

If you plan to store media on it (music, movies and photos) that would be another reason to get a big HDD. I just stream all mine from my Mac, so again, it's not much of a concern for me.

In the end, it just comes down to how you plan on using your console. I've had my Xbox for almost a year, and haven't came anywhere close to filling its meagre 60 GB, whereas someone else might have filled it several times over.
  • That's what I was thinking, I guess I am trying to find excuses not to spend all that money!

I fitted a 250 Gig to my 60 Gb console and whilst it could last the lifetime of the console ive easily filled it with HD movies etc
A LOT more games seem to need installing to the HD too before they can be played which takes quite a bit of room up
All depends what your going to use it for really

  • Well, I just bought it so there's no going back now. I have a history of bad purchasing decisions: I just hope this breaks the trend.

the xbox allows games on the HD so if you use that it can take a lot
PS3 allows you to house various media on the HD so if thats your bag you will need loads
