the mothercare own brand 3 ways one (front facing in, front facing out, on back) fitted my husband and i really well. both over 18 stone and hubby over 6 ft 4. good lumber support too. we got a back pack style one when baby got bigger. my be more man-friendly than some of the wrap/fabric ones. (my husband thought they were too feminine for him)

Both my ex and my now OH would happily carry babes in the sling as long as it was a "manly" colour/fabric

I agree, we use a sling and us and baby love it.

kindofagilr I also worried about baby being on my front as I'm the clumsiest person going, but I seem to be more careful when he's strapped to me.

Another vote for a stretchy wrap sling here.

for example, a kari me, or a moby. Or, if you think that the wrapping looks too fiddly (its really, really easy, honestly) you can get things like a close baby carrier where it is kind of stitched together already.

Our kari me has seen two children for over 2 years, we still use it with our 2.5 year old. The fact that you can spread the fabric right over your shoulders and back so that the weight spreads evenly, as opposed to putting lots of pressure on rucksack style straps, makes them infinitely more comfy. As they are so long, one size literally fits all.

You can't buy them on the high street, but try somewhere like bigmamaslings.co.uk or slingdiva.co.uk or look on ebay.

Can't recommend it enough, we didn't even need a pushchair we were so pleased with ours. We only got a pushchair at 3 months so the grandparents could use it!

Don't go for a wilkinet - I loved it but dh found it didn't work for him, you need a waist for the ties to sit comfortably

He also hated the ring slings, but would wear a baby bjorn type one, which I didn't like

I clearly need more sleep! When I read the title of the post my first though was why would babies try to carry big men????
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!
  • Thank you all for advice! Much appreciated
  • just for information, I tried a few carriers on over the weekend and ended up going for a Mothercare 4 in 1 carrier. Had loads of room for movement. Wasnt impressed with the BabyBjorn as the position of the carrier was really high up on me and could be moved further down (ie if was nearly blocking my view!).
Also tried on the sling, but it just didnt feel right.

Also in true money saving fashion it was reduced from 50 odd quid to 34.99!
