I have been through the same nonsense with Scottish and Southern and Scottish Power today.
I was supposed to move into my new house tomorrow only to have found today the gas meter is prepay and there is no card:mad:
Have never had one of these before so phoned SP the new provider and said please change it, I don't want it they said I have to get back to current supplier Scot. Southern and they then passed me back saying that as the outgoing provider they would not be looking to change. I could be waiting a few days for a new card though so have had to change all removal arrangements and so on because the emergency credit has also been used so I will have not hot water and cooking facilities. More
Fair enough, so I called SP back and asked them for the changeover. Was told that I would have to pay £150 deposit and £66 for the changeover-!!!!!!? Why? Is it my fault there is a finincky prepay thingy in there? And why am I being penalised despite having a 100% payment record with my last supplier? I know the meters aren't cheap and all the costs involved re changing them over etc etc. But surely it doesn't seem fair that I'm stuck with something I never asked for and to make matters worse have to pay to get rid of?
So, I thought, I would build on my history with e-on and go to them instead. Spoke to a really nice person who was able to exercise common sense as opposed to just reading off a script and said that she could waive the fee for changing the meter. Just have to wait for the welcome letter and then have to call back (lovely lady even gave her direct dial to save explaining to someone else) and she will make the appoitment to change it over.
SP can get going, I'm aware of the whys and wherefores but frankly I've had a week of being stiffed by companies who just think they can do what they like- It may cost me slightly more in actual usage charges but at least I am not having to part with over £200 to get something taken away that I neither wanted or needed in the first place.
Moving is a stressful enough experience as it is, I just ran out of patience today but the lady from e-on has at least restored some faithThere used to be a street named after Chuck Norris, but it was changed because nobody crosses Chuck Norris and lives.0 -

Unless you were still in the cooling off period with scottish power and were able to cancel?0 -
You do realise your going to need to wait 28 days for the current transfer from scottish and southern to scottish power then another 28 days to transfer from sp to eon?
Unless you were still in the cooling off period with scottish power and were able to cancel?
Yes, fortunately still in cooling off period so was able to cancel them and bypass the additional 28 daysThere used to be a street named after Chuck Norris, but it was changed because nobody crosses Chuck Norris and lives.0 -

well just off the phone with both scottish power and npower.calles npower first as that is current supplier.they said no probs to remove it and its free.fair enough but im not sure i want to go with them as the have bad reputation, other half says as long as we get power doesnt matter. so then i phoned scottish power and their new policy is to let the meter stay for 12 months, because it rented they wont remove it. then the silly woman tries to tell me its a great way to pay, cheaper than cash, despite me telling her we pay by direct debit, which is cheapest method!!!! its a better way to econimise in the current climate, oh yeah where more people are renting cos they can afford to buy, sound like a scam to me cos they can put the meter in if you get into arrears!!!!!
so looks like scottish power has lost another customer.god im so angry i think i could slap the woman lol:mad:        :mad:let he without sin cast the first stone0
