Shadow on LCD screen

I have a Dell Vostro 200 (low profile so narrow PCI cards) with a Samsung LCD monitor. The display has always shown a slight shadow on all vertical lines and I guess I have got used to it. Seeing a new laptop with no shadow has made me realise that I should fix it. The Dell has the graphics card that it came with, can't remember the type but nothing special, and the monitor was from another computer.

Do you think that it is the lower quality graphics card that is the problem and that I should get another one, or are there settings in Vista that could cure the problem?

TIA

is this shadow like a black blob dark spot on the screen? does it move? Or is it getting bigger?

have you plugged your vostro in another TV /monitor?

First thing to check is that the screen resolution is set to the native resolution of the monitor. This is the actual pixel count of the screen itself.

If you find that you can't increase the resolution enough, it may be that it is using the generic drivers that are built into Windows, and that you need to update the drivers for the graphics card.
