Upgrading RAM

I am planning to upgrade my laptop memory with an additional 1GB RAM.
Just wanted to know, if there is any possibility of data loss or any other problems...... just in case!!

Thanks in advance.

u could fry your motherboard, processor and other serious damage but its very rare unless your the kinda person that can't touch a door handle without a spark. Earthing yourself is easy and shouldnt have any problems doing it, really easy to replace laptop memory

Just make sure your laptop can take the extra Ram . Most can take 4GB there are some that only accept 2GB.

  • No , the ram upgrade won't cause data loss

but remember to avoid static build-up when working on the inside of a laprop.

    - touch a radiator to earth yourself and dont touch the edges of the ram module (treat with care like a dvd)

for your information : only the first laptops on the market had ram that held data but these were obsoleted before 1996!

    It works best if you use say 1GB & 1GB or 2GB & 2GB rather than 512 X2 & 1GB = 2GB

    Hope that makes sense!

But that wouldn't work anyway, cause that would require 3 ports! And very few, if any, laptops have more than 2 ports!

The user manuals usually tell you to remove the battery first.
If you upgrade the memory after you've put the laptop in Hibernate mode it'll crash the first time you turn it back on but that's the only software related problem I can think of.
Just make sure you get the right type and you'll be fine.

Take battery out. Press and hold on switch for 10 secs or so. Then touch something metal and off you go. It helps to have a stiff drink handy.

Make sure you have the power cable connected to the wall, but turned off, as this give you something to earth to!

True for a desktop computer but the DC side of a laptop's AC/DC adapter won't provide an earth connection.
