Paypal really does suck!

A fraudalent buyer bought a mobile phone top up code off me.
3 months later I received a chargeback. There wasn't much I could do about it.
Today I received a jolly email from Paypal telling me that they'd closed the dispute and I'd been debited the £14.50. Not a huge problem, I'd bought the code in error, so overall I was back to where I'd started.
However, they also have charged me an admin/credit card fee of £7. I'm pretty annoyed by this. So I've now lost £7 from the deal.
I'm seriously considering not using Paypal for future auctions. I look forwards to the day that BACS transfers are near instant.

I stopped using Paypal for a similar reason; gave up on Ebay too because of problems with buyers. The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

They run the same as paypal though and no longer automatically protect you from a chargeback. In fact any person accepting credit cards either through an online party like paypal or nochex, or through a merchant account are subject to the cash back problem.

I usually put my items on ebay in batches of about 10 - 15 at a time (I just sell things from the house I no longer need). The last batch I put on I decided not to offer paypal as a payment option as I have had trouble with it too. I only recieved a few bids and the stuff went for a lot less than I would expect it to.
Having said that I dont think I will use paypal anymore because I've had so much trouble with it.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -

Every now and then I do try using one of my other ids to sell stuff and don't offer paypal. Frankly though it cost me more in the long run as I sell so little I have to pay out the listing fees for nothing.
My time is also extremely valuable to me so the few pounds I pay paypal every week more than covers the time I would spend going to the bank, emailing people to acknowledge cheques, emailing them again when item sent, checking my bank to make sure cheques haven't bounced.
Everyone must do what is best for them and I would never support ebay if any particular payment method became mandatory. For me though I have only ever had problems with cheques and lost money through accepting them, so I am obviously inclined to want to avoid them if I can.

Soo
They do offer some form of protection...
From the T&Cs
1.7 Providing that We believe that you have acted in good faith, if a chargeback claim arises as a result of the card holder maintaining that they did not authorise the transaction to purchase Emoney, Nochex will assume from you the responsibility for refunding the cardholder.
However, in all other circumstances if a payer’s Emoney purchase transaction that is credited to your account is subject to chargeback you agree that you are responsible for refunding the payment. If a chargeback occurs on an Emoney payment made to your account, we may debit your account balance to pay for it and at our choice may close or restrict your account. In addition we reserve the right to employ other commercial or legal means to recover any shortfall arising where the balance in your account is insufficient to repay such a chargeback.
