Hi there

Got a great deal from Dell a month or so back which included a free dell printer a dell colour printer 725.

We have quite an old HP deskjet 845 c which works fine and has never given us any problems ...:j

Does anybody know if the dell one is better than the HP we currently use?

Not technically minded so any thoughts would be appreciated.

Poor Dell printer is still sitting boxed in the hallway:rolleyes:
:T Smilings good for you, it releases happy endorphines in your brain and makes your boobs grow bigger :T

I also have mine sitting in the box it came in.
I did print a couple of pages to test it worked.
Its very basic but if all you need is simple printer it is fine.It is a lexmark re badged I think but you have to use dell ink or get them re filled.

Ive looked at the spec on both :

    DELL:

The 725 printer gives you the capability to print on a variety of media and creates impressive looking documents in both colour or black and white across a range of material from professional looking photos to brochures, posters and greeting cards with print resolutions up to 4800 x 1200 dpi.Print speeds are up to 14 A4 pages per minute in black and 14 A4 pages per minute in colour.

    HP

    Black speed
    Up to 8 ppm

    Color speed
    Up to 5 ppm

    Black resolution
    Up to 600 dpi

    Color resolution
Up to 600 x 1200 dpi (on premium photo paper)

    Print technology
HP's Color Layering Technology from Photoret II (Resolution Enhancement Technology)

    Product highlights Built-in photo quality

The dell seems to have quicker speeds and some high resolution numbers ... im presumming that means its better?

  • not a bad printer, but where it hurts is the cartridge replacement. they do cost quite a bit.
i use epson printer purely because they seem to always have their cartridges copied by cheaper firms and you get a full set for under £10, usually very quality but occasionally they can be useless. luck of the draw really.

Leave the dell in the box and sell it on ebay. you should get enough to buy an ink cart for your HP. The ink is only available so far from dell and they charge quite alot, the printer is a rebadged lexmark who are also expensive printers to run.

Everyone that gives a printer away now give lexmark becasue lexmark sell them for next to nothing and make their money from the ink and this is the same thing that dell are doing. Stick to HP or epson if that is what you have I personally like hp the build seems better.
