Just a quick one folks, I am due to collect the keys this Friday, as far as I know everything is sorted and ready to go.
I have now been told I am being sent to the far reaches with work and may not return until after office hours Friday night.
My partner has booked the day off so is able to get the keys etc
Question is: Will I need to be present to sign anything jointly - or will the good lady be ok to get it all sorted alone? Can't get hold of EA to find out currently....
Thanks in advance!

Just for picking the keys up? I fetched ours on my own whilst my partner didn't get out of the car in the pouring rain, I don't even remember them asking for ID though ...
I could have been any dripping wet person off the street
You're always best checking what they expect from you just in case they want some proof of id.0 -

The EA will hand the keys to either of you but want proof of ID if he doesn't already know you.
Otherwise best to check with your solicitor that they have got everything signed etc. Unlikely you will have to be in his office for anything but signing last minute documents - but in most cases there won't be any of these because you will have signed everything when you signed the contract.RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0 -
Assuming your wife has met the EA at least once, so that they can tell it's really your wife, no proof of ID needed.
Just walk in, hold out your hands, and let the keys to your new home fall graciously into her hands0 -
When I picked up our keys, I was surprised they seemed to just hand them over. Before I walked out, I said something along the lines of 'Do I need to sign anything or give you any proof of ID?' and she said 'No don't be silly, it's fine.'
Then just as I was walking out the of door, she said, 'Well actually, now you've said that you've made me nervous. We do have a book you should sign, and do you have any ID please?'
Made me laugh. If I'd not said anything, I could have been any old person walking in to collect the keys and they'd not have raised an eyebrow (they didn't know me btw as I had never been to the office).0
