Seeing how this thread has gone off topic...

I admin a free messageboard and there's an option on there to allow swear words that are included in other words. As it's a football board, for a team that is sometimes in the same league as the town above, this is essential.

I'd assume this board has a similar option. (But I bet it ain't free!)

    yes we went off topic.
    However...
Possible solutions was to have a wifi router connected to the internet line , making a little wifi nextwork (possibly still illegal in china)
Using the existing computer and running an ethernet cable to your lappy setting up a network and sharing the internet via the inlaws main computer.
Possible that login details are limited to 1 computer use making a networks second computer unable to access the internet.

Formating went up the spout so had to fit in the angels

You might find it will only work on 1 machine at a time. The username is usally set for 1 computer at a time. You could try a wireless router, but I seriously doubt you can have both working at the same time. Apartments in Asia usually are dogged by internet hoggers that work all day leaving it downloading then on all night playing Ragnarok or other online game. What these apartments do is limit the apartments to 1 computer access and sometimes disconnecting every few minutes to stop online gamers and general internet hogs.

The only way to avoid it was to live in a condominium where you had your own direct line to your condo paying the telecommunication company direct for the service. However that wouldn't help your in your case as its apartment regulated, which usually means huge price difference than direct.

Thanks Davester. That's what I needed to know. My main problem is that their computer is in Chinese, so it causes problems for me to use it. However, I think that I'll just take a VMWare image next time and boot up into my own environment from their computer! :j
