I HATE my scar

I know the Red Cross do camouflage makeup and in the short term that might help? See if you can find a session near you.Signature removed for peace of mind0

Hi I have a scar like the one you describe, raised, red, shiny, that resulted from surgery as a child. The doctor at the time told me that I could consider a skin graft/revision as an adult but I'd have to put up with it until then. It is on my hip so only visible in swimwear/underwear etc so I didn't really think it was worth having surgery for but I tried Elastoplast scar reduction patches a few years ago. They are like special plasters that you put on every day and leave on for 12 - 24 hours. I used two packs worth I think and it did make a noticeable difference. The scar is still there but it is now pale pink and noticably flatter. I think the advantage over bio oil is that it is held in contact with the scar for 24 hours whereas bio oil would rub off. Having said that if you have stretch marks or acne scarring that would be difficult to treat with patches then bio oil sounds great.0

I was just going to mention the scar plasters too, have never used them but i noticed them the other day in boots. I use bio oil on dark marks left from spots/cuts and its very good, also good on my stretch marks, and a scaly bit of skin i have, have no idea if it would work on raised scars. I have tried the palmers scar serum treatment, its made from shark something and smells very fishy, had to bin it because i couldn't handle the smell. Maybe a trip to the doctors, see what they suggest, tell them its affecting your confidence. My doctor wasn't interested in my scarring, but its on my neck, back and shoulders so can be covered, just can never wear sleeveless tops.0

google kelloid scarring.
I have loads of kelloid scars, unfortunately no matter how much I hate them they will not go away, and there is no way to cut them out as it's skin that's not healed properly, so any cutting would just make the skin react by growing a bigger scar. When I google imaged it it came up with the pic below claiming lasers minimise them, but on C4's embarassing bodies (the programme) they reiterated that nothing could be done. I had them 'shot' with steroids a few years back, hurt like hell and didn't work.

my friends sister in law fell through a patio door as a child and cut her face from forhead to chin, straight down. The doc prescribed a cream and you have to get really close to see any sign of a scar. I can ask the name of the cream if you like? I know the docs tried to stop prescribing it as it was so expensive, but her parents insisted she remain on it and she has, she is only 8 or 9 now and the scar is honestly almost invisible.0

Have to agree with other posters who have said very little can be done for keloid/hypertrophic scarring. I have some, but nothing has made the blindest bit of difference in the long term, although I did find that silicon gel patches would make the scar look very much reduced for 24hrs or so, but it soon came back (tho might be worth considering before a big night out.) I would say that after 2 years I have pretty much forgotten about mine now tho, and most other people are too polite to comment or dont notice/care0

Hi Roxie
Just a wee note to say that I had very good results using a Cica Care gel sheet on a keloid scar on my arm, I would cut it into strips and hold in place with a little bit of surgical tape, I only ever bought one pack of this and my scar is now flat and much less noticeable.

I also know someone who would rave about Bio Oil & had fantastic results with that.
I hope you got on ok at the doctors & that you manage to find something that works for you
