I HATE my scar

Options
Hi all, I've never posted on this forum before. I have a scar on my cleavage which I absolutely hate with a passion. My boobs were my only good feature since having children and now I have this very noticable scar which (dare I say it?) looks like a third nipple in the middle of my cleavage (thanks to my husband to for making that little 'joke'). On looking into it it seems to be a hypertrophic scar (raised, red, shiny) - does anyone know if there are any creams or treatments or if bio oil would help??

Have you spoken to your Doc about it?

There's some new scar healing cream I saw on sale in Boots the other day, but I don't know if its any good or not!

Have you kicked your DH yet as well - if not, that might make you fell better ... grrrr ... men!!!
  • Bio Oil is absolutely amazing, don't expect results straight away but you will defo see them if you give it time, good luck :D
  • I found using Palmer's Cocoa butter helped fade some of my little scars, but they weren't very big ones. I've heard wonderful things about Bio Oil, I'd say it's worth a try! Good luck!

I've just been reading about a silicone cream called dermatix - it says it is available on prescription so will go see doc about it this week. Could cry actually as I feel like there is some hope. OH thinks I am being vain (prol cos he doesnt like the male attention my boobs get/got) but although I know things could be alot worse (I had a skin cancer scare hence the scar but all is fine now) it is really getting too me. My legs are awful anyway (covered in stretch marks and veiny) - my tummy, well,I've had 3 kids what do you think?? But my boobs have always been fabulous and even after breastfeeding 3 children have remained so and I was proud of them. To have that taken away now feels awful and I feel incredibly self conscious - if anyone glances in that direction now instead of feeling proud (ie feigning annoyance and tutting), I feel embarrassed and think they are looking at the scar.

'Hypertrophic' scar???Doesnt make sense, all hypertrophic means is (in relation to the scar) is that your skin is turning over at a quicker pace than usual??? A lot of dermatology has raised, shiny edges.

Get it checked out by your doc. He/She will want to know when it first appeared, when you noticed it, changes in size/colour etc...
S/he may just give you a topical steroid or he may refer you to a dermatologist.

How about a light dusting of mineral makeup on your cleavage. This will make it seem less red (if that's what it is?). And will even out the skin tone, MMU is also healing so won't do your skin any harm.

    Regards

What 'caused' it? Or did it just appear?

I would ask doctor about it.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

    I think it's a scar caused by a skin biopsy -
"(I had a skin cancer scare hence the scar but all is fine now)" quoted from post 5.
But I agree, maybe a chat with the doc might get some ideas to make it heal less obtrusively.

    It's only a game

Hi - thank you for all the replies. Hypertrophic I think is the name for it - it just basically means a raised, hard scar caused by overproduction of collagen - but not a keloid scar. Yes it was caused by a biopsy - I got an infection which I dont think helped.
I have seen the silicone cream in boots today - its £30 though so am going to go to docs tomo to see if it's available on prescription - it says online that it is - and I'll give that a go. Has any one tried it? I'm going to try some makeup on it this weekend but obv it'll still be quite raised up. Thanks all.

Talk to your doctor - my sister had a 'nipple' keloid type scar on her arm from an injection, and got referred to a dermatologist for steroid injections which have flattened it completely. It's still pale pink but much, much less noticeable than it was originally.

Thank you for this - I talk to the dr about this. Am glad it worked for your sister.
