Childrens Passports

My daughter got a passport when she was only two months old, just over two years ago. Babies of course grow up fast and now two years on she barely resembles her passport picture, but the passport itself is valid until she is five. A friend told me recently that new rules mean I have to apply for a new passport for her - I don't want to really as I paid for a five year passport and don't want the extra expense with our summer holiday ony two months away. On holiday last year we were asked at check in to confirm her date of birth so hopefully something similar will suffice this year. Has this caused anyone any problems?

Our son was born in 2000. We were going away 6 weeks after he was born so his passport photo was taken when he was 2 hours old. He did get some funny looks when he reached 4 and still had the baby photo. We got the passport updated earlier than the expiry date because we were going to the USA and it neeed to be valid for 6 months after the travelling date. That was when he was about 4 and a half but they add the extra time onto the new passport. That was in 2004 so not sure if things have changed since then.

    Hi

My nearly 4 yr old is used his with baby picture (about two weeks old) at easter no problem. I had read you had to have picture updated if you were an adult and had changed dramatically but I didn't think so for children?

I have 2 children whose passport pictures were taken at 6 weeks old in 2001and 2 weeks old in 2003. We regularly travel as we live overseas and haven't had any problems with their pictures even though they've obviously changed. I've just had my passport renewed and the british embassy didn't advise me of any new rules for children's passport, but you should check it out with the passport office just to make sure.

Just to tell you - you do not need a new passport for your children until it expires. That is the procedure - and why a childs passport is only valid for five years.
