TV needs repairing.

Our TV just shut itself off and now won't work. It is about four years old made by Grundig. The power light is on but nothing is happening. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be. I also have 3 portable TV's that don't work so does anyone know of a reasonable and reliable place I could take these to be fixed. I need somewhere in the Rhondda or Taff Ely area of South Wales. Thank You.

Have you checked the fuse inside the tv?

I've had problems before with home stereos/tv's and the majority of the time the fuse on the circuit board has blown. Fuses cost less than a £1 to replace, which is far better than a tv repair man charging you upwards of £50.

Unless you have knowledge of TV ...opening a CRT TV is extremely dangerous.

But yes, if you know what you're doing opening it and looking for a blown fuse is a first basic step.

Any other internal repair other than an internal fuse and you will have to short the capacitor, not something for those who don't have a clue.

Might be a silly question but if the power light is on , is it not that the remote requires new batteries ?.

Remote is working fine so that is not the problem, only wish it was that simple.

Do you see the tube neck glowing? If it is then could be number of faults including power supply or line output stage fault.

If its not probably the power supply. Get a local shop to give an estimate!

Be careful if you got the back off...theres 24,000 volts in there!!!

Maybe I have the terminology wrong, it has been a long time, but other than that, yes, shorting it is necessary. If you have something to say why don't you say it instead of looking at the sky?
