A website can be written with no special software, just using notebook and learning/using basic html.
You do need to check with the school what everybody else is using really.... personally I used to write them by hand in notepad. I now use Wordpress but that's an online thing.0 -

I do believe the website is designed and submitted online to the examining board.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Cheers for all the helpful answers, and for those suggesting DS ask the tutors, he had his first lesson yesterday, where they simply outlined the course. He will of course be asking them what they will be using.
For those suggesting coding from scratch...I had a look at the BBC Bitesize site yesterday, and if the actual exam is anything like the sample questions they ask on the site then I suspect that there will be no actual coding knowledge required. (I answered all the test questions in the ICT module and came out with 99% - and I haven't studied for it:eek: perhaps exams are getting easier).
As for Sue's idea of simply letting him build a site, well that was what I had in mind. I have no intention of teaching him the course, rather I want to give him some understanding of why a float element makes text wrap around a picture etc. Understanding how the software works should make it easier for him.0 -
I agree, it's usually WYSIWYG HTML coding, my school used Dreamweaver (such a horrible piece of software), and I used FrontPage. I'm doing XHTML, PHP and Java in my Uni modules, and if a high school is using that kind of code it must have a very very very strong IT dept![DISCLAIMER: Any posts made by myself are my opinions and do not represent my employer]
God put me on Earth to acomplish a certain number of things.
Right now I am so far behind I will probably never be allowed to die!0 -

It's unlikely to be Frontpage as that has been superseded by Expression Web.
Schools tend to use MS standard stuff and, thanks to Tesco, can upgrade regularly so it could be thatIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0 -
Back in 2003 when I was doing my GCSE's all we got to use was notepad and raw html, you couldnt use any css, flash, javascript, php etc and got marked down for not using the correct tags, even if you had nothing in the head section you still had to include the opening and closing tags.
Dont know if that was just my school though0
